There's no Us and Them
It's in our nature to dispose of contrary views.
We tend to, by default, dismiss different opinions using overly simplified reasons.
All opinions are worthy of consideration.
Some of the biggest moments of growth I've had came from making an honest effort to understand points of view that are contrary or challenging to my own.
Ignoring or brushing over the opposing view creates a mental dishonesty.
Nuance is the dominant ingredient of our existence yet our default inclination is to simplify and jump to an extreme.
Thinking in absolutes diverges from reality. Recognizing this in ourselves is the first step towards constructive discussions or peaceful disagreements.
All perspectives, no matter how wrong they might seem to us, are still human. They all have facets and influences.
Understanding is not agreeing, it's the necessary precursor to either agreeing and disagreeing.
You can't have an informed opinion about something without understanding the other side.
