AI Honeymoon Phase
We're kind of mesmerized by how fast AI can produce code and do agent-like tasks: searching docs, moving files, scaffolding projects. It feels like a massive productivity boost.
But I think we're overestimating the gains because we underestimate the cost of reviewing, validating, and integrating all that output. We act like we're removing work for free, when really, we're just shifting most of it.
The main tradeoff with AI tools is replacing write time with review time. That's still a productivity boost, just not nearly as big as it's being portrayed.
And I say all this as a determined AI bull, we're just in the honeymoon stage and falling a little too hard :)
