Why “Lound”? It’s a play on “sound” since the app is voice-driven. In Scots and Northern English dialects, “lound” means peace, tranquility, or calm. A “lound” day is hushed and peaceful. It also refers to a sheltered spot, like the lee side of a hill. The Wand of Peace (a wand of lound) was a symbolic rod used by Scottish Messengers-at-Arms to maintain public order.

Lound is a voice journaling app for iOS. You talk, it listens, and it helps you make sense of what’s on your mind.

Speaking your thoughts out loud is different from keeping them in your head. When you vocalize, you naturally slow down and organize your thinking. Lound captures this and turns it into something useful.

Why Voice

Research shows that naming emotions out loud reduces activity in the amygdala by up to 50%. This is called affect labeling. Speaking forces scattered thoughts into a sequential format your brain can actually process.

Speaking also captures more of what you’re actually thinking. You speak at roughly 150 words per minute compared to typing at 40 WPM. That’s 3.75x faster. When you type, you filter and edit. When you speak, you capture the raw stream.

Voice vs Typing comparison

Lound is built on evidence-based frameworks from cognitive behavioral therapy. The goal is to help you understand your own patterns and develop healthier thought habits.

How It Works

Record, Process, Reflect workflow

Record - Capture thoughts hands-free. No formatting, no editing, no friction. Just speak.

Process - AI analyzes your recording and extracts titles, summaries, mood, people, places, events, and connections to past entries.

Reflect - Get insights based on your history, not generic advice. Ask questions about your own life. Connect dots you’d miss on your own.

AI Processing

Every entry gets automatically analyzed:

  • Automatic titles - No more “Untitled Entry #47”
  • Smart summaries - Key points distilled for quick review
  • Mood detection - Emotional state captured without manual tagging
  • Entity extraction - People, places, and events you mentioned
  • Thought connections - Links to related past entries

AI detects patterns you can’t see because you’re too close to them.

AI Chat

The app remembers everything you’ve shared. You can chat with it anytime and ask questions about your own life:

  • “Do you think Alex is mad at me?"
  • "What have I been grateful for this month?"
  • "Summarize my thoughts about the career change”

It connects dots across your entire history.

AI chat conversation

Find any thought by meaning, not just keywords. Search for “family” and find entries about your parents, siblings, and home. Even if you never used that exact word.

Filter by theme to narrow results: grief, therapy, anxiety, relationships, and more.
